Welcome to the 22nd High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands !!
I will be here all week, reporting to you live on whats new in the THC-heavy field of strains that make you smile !
Founded by a High Times Magazine editor in 1987, The Cannabis Cup has grown to be the One-And-Only Marijuana Festival globally. A number of VIP judges and public judges smoke the strains entered into the competition by different coffeeshops and grow houses.
.
Here in the Netherlands Marijuana is decriminalized, so the judges spend all week visiting coffeeshops and testing their way through large menu selection of the finest buds. Most judges go by a “whatever I end up smoking the most” - policy when they submit their favorite strains.
In 2008, the Cannabis Cup had a record of 2,300 judges - can’t wait to see how many made it this year !
The VIP - judges have just release the Pre-Test Results…the name in parentheses is the name of the Shop who entered the bud…
good to hear those guys are working hard !!!

Backcountry Blog
I know it’s been a while. No internet in the backcountry and my fingers are too tired at night to be typing. I should do some thumb exercises this summer so my right thumb gets stronger..
The last month has been insane and I would almost consider it a highlight of my snowboarding career. Going to the backcountry as much as possible, waiting for nice weather, window-shopping, looking for spots, spinning the wrong direction, wrong turns, shoveling, looking for lines, take-offs, landing, eating shit, good snow, bad snow, ice, slush… 1 broken belt, 2 broken ice-scratchers…
I’m starting to get to know the zones a lot better and I’m so much more comfortable being out there and looking for my own things to hit than I was just a month ago. I have been watching the guys closely and trying to copy how they go about it.
I dont have very many shots though unfortunately. But there is some really good ones, too. I never thought it was gonna be easy…
Yesterday for example, I went out with Rasman, Rob and Tifo. Tifo pointed out this jump to me that I was able to hit natural. While doubling up there I fell off the sled and hit my head on my board that I was carrying (Bruise1). Meanwhile, Rob and Rasman were filming a cliff drop close-by. We then went to this other jump spot, where Rasman was going for a sick FS360. The landing was flat as hell and it was anything but powder. I doubled him up and he finally landed it. On my way down I was on one side of the sled nd hit a bump I wasnt ready for. Both my feet slipped off the footrest and my shins painfully slid down the cheese-grader metal all the way to my knees. It felt pretty shitty and led to Bloody Bruise 2. I was, however, able to hold on to my sled or else it would have made its lonely way down the hill…
My turn to go hit Rasman’s jump. I was gonna back3 it but then decided for a straight-air first - luckily. The landing was way more flat than I thought (and I thought it was flat) and I took my knee to my forehead. Beautiful. (Bruises 3 and 4)
But I had built this pad-down drop the day before so I took Tifo and Rob there and started hitting it. Did a couple of cab1s until I was happy with my style. When Rob doubled me up, he pinned it as I was jumping off his sled and his no-board, that is attached to his sled, hit me in the ellbow wicked hard (Bruise 5). I did however, get the shot - photo and film
Well, considering I have been more than healthy all season long and these bruises won’t kill me, just make me stronger, I had a great day. My right knee is pretty swollen so I am taking the day off - back tomorrow though - we still have two more days of sunshine coming up and I still need tons of shots !!
Oh, and I heard there might be an Alterna teaser coming up soon ….
I have been riding the Cheryl Maas 153 and the Team 155 and been absolutely loving it. The people I met from Nitro are supercool and it feels like a perfect fit !!!
Snowboarding is a FUN sport! it's not a competitive sport! until we can measure how much FUN a person has we should not be declaring winners or losers!
