During the time of the Cannabis Cup, an exhibition hall outside of Amsterdam becomes the Powerzone - Headquarters, Sampling, and Voting Area. From Amsterdam Centraal Station we  take a 10 minute train there and walk to the low-profile hall that smells like sweet sensi…

The owner of Mountain High Cones, Europe’s monopolist on pre-rolled papers, welcomes us with a beer and we check out his wide variety of different sized cones.

At the Greenhouse booth next to us, a cute girl in a skirt fills up a gigantic bag with vaporized fumes. When the bag is inflated you can read “Silver Lemon Haze”. We get in line for a sample and when it’s my turn the cute girl says “Let me roll it up, I’m gonna give you a big one”. Nice.

The contestant of Barney’s coffeeshop, a vanilla haze, smells amazing. Much like their coffeeshop, their booth is very high quality with huge pictures of the most beautiful buds. I’m getting used to the vaporizer samples and take a deep whiff of the vanilla. Yummy.

A dank smell pulls me towards a smoky booth, where I find the boys from BC Bud Depot. They immediately hook me up with a bong hit of their excellent Blue Buddha. I cant say what got me high because I did a vaporizer hit of their other contestant, The Purps, right afterwards, but I felt so light and high and happy that I must declare this combo as personal, unofficial Winner of the Day.

oh, and I was gonna say - I slept very well last night…

Welcome to the 22nd High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands !!

I will be here all week, reporting to you live on whats new in the THC-heavy field of strains that make you smile !

Founded by a High Times Magazine editor in 1987, The Cannabis Cup has grown to be the One-And-Only  Marijuana Festival globally. A number of VIP judges and public judges smoke the strains entered into the competition by different coffeeshops and grow houses.

Here in the Netherlands Marijuana is decriminalized, so the judges spend all week visiting coffeeshops and testing their way through large menu selection of the finest buds. Most judges go by a “whatever I end up smoking the most” - policy when they submit their favorite strains.
In 2008, the Cannabis Cup had a record of 2,300 judges - can’t wait to see how many made it this year !

The VIP - judges have just release the Pre-Test Results…the name in parentheses is the name of the Shop who entered the bud…
